The Tai Chi Program
Tai Chi is a Chinese martial art whose legacy dates back to the early 17th century. Tai Chi translates as "Supreme Ultimate Boxing" - the highest form of martial art. Tai Chi is based on the cultivation of one's internal energy or Qi (pronounced Chee) rather than on external physical strength.
Taiji uses a series of slow movements called forms. This slow pace is ideal for people of all ages and physical development. The movements or forms of Taiji serves to loosen the limbs and open all the joints in the body to allow for the free flow of Qi to circulate throughout the body leading to increased vitality and mental, physical, and emotional health as well as prolonging life.
The movements of Tai Chi can be used for self-defense as well and because it is based on internal rather than external energy, one doesn't have to be physically strong to use Tai Chi for this purpose. Tai Chi is based on yielding to divert aggressive actions or energy rather than counter-attack. It is a discipline whose lessons can be applied in all areas of life, not just self-defense.
